The SubTerra ST-12 Passive Subwoofer is designed for the purist audiophile who insists on complete control over their system’s amplification, preferring to choose their own amplifier to drive the subwoofer and integrate it with their existing high-end audio separates. In a market dominated by powered subwoofers with built-in amplifiers of varying quality, the SubTerra ST-12 stands apart by offering a passive enclosure of exceptional quality.
The 12-inch woofer driver features a paper composite cone with a flat-wound copper voice coil and a massive ferrite magnet assembly. Paper composite provides the combination of lightness, stiffness, and natural internal damping that audiophiles associate with the most musical-sounding bass reproduction. The rubber surround and progressive spider suspension system enables large cone excursions without harshness or mechanical noise.
The sealed cabinet design is chosen over bass reflex for its superior transient accuracy, reduced group delay, and more natural roll-off characteristics. The fully braced 25mm MDF cabinet with internal acoustic foam provides a rigid, well-damped acoustic environment for the driver. The frequency response extends from 22Hz to 150Hz, providing exceptional infrasonic bass capability that adds a physical dimension to music and cinema.
A single pair of heavy-duty gold-plated binding posts is provided, accepting speaker cable terminations up to 10 AWG. The SubTerra ST-12 is intended for use with a separate subwoofer amplifier or a high-current stereo amplifier with bass management. The sealed enclosure lends itself particularly well to sealed-box amplifier configurations. Available in Piano Black and Natural Oak finishes.
